Kicker Car Audio From the Purchasing Desk: What I Actually Order for Our Install Shop

Every fall, one of our installers walks into my office with a sticky note. It usually says something like: need two Kicker subs, one 5-channel amp, speaker wire, and a socket set while you're at it. Then he's back in the bay before I can ask what vehicle it's going into.

The Real Problem: It's Not the Brand, It's the Match

From the outside, it looks like the biggest risk is getting the wrong power rating. The reality is different. The biggest risk is ordering a subwoofer that's technically compatible but acoustically wrong—or ordering an amp that's powerful on paper but undersupplied by the vehicle's electrical system.

Nobody sets out to order the wrong Kicker product. It happens because the person writing the PO is usually one step removed from the car. The counter guy talks to the customer; the installer talks to the car; the buyer talks to the price list. Unless those three layers communicate, the order will be based on inventory, not physics. And when the box arrives, the problem is buried inside the install bay, not the invoice.

The deeper cause is that most order forms focus on peak power and speaker size. But those two numbers don't tell you whether the sub will sound right in a sealed 1.0 cu ft enclosure, or whether the amp will actually fit under a truck seat. RMS vs. Peak: The Print Standard of Audio

In print, there's a standard rule: commercial offset printing needs 300 DPI at final size. The Tool Problem Nobody Thinks About: Metric vs Standard Socket Set
